New York City and state officials announced the groundbreaking of the North End Recirculation Project on Monday. The $35.7 million investment will change how northern Central Park manages stormwater, with completion expected in fall 2028.
The city says the system will keep an estimated 132 million gallons of water out of local sewers each year and conserve 175 million gallons of drinking water annually. Those figures are projected benefits, rather than results already achieved.
The work links water management in the Pool, the Loch and the Harlem Meer with efforts to reduce flooding in Harlem and East Harlem. City, state and private funding will support construction.
