The Federal Reserve’s next policy meeting is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27–28. Its calendar lists a policy announcement at 2 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday and a press conference at 2:30 p.m.

Reuters reported Monday that the central bank is widely expected to leave its benchmark range at 3.75% to 4.00%. That is an expectation, not a decision: the outcome remains pending.

For borrowers and businesses, the statement and subsequent explanation will provide the next official account of the policy outlook. Market expectations can change before the meeting concludes.
