Planning next summer’s airport demand
October 16 is the Federal Aviation Administration’s deadline for airlines to submit summer 2027 schedules at five capacity-constrained airports, including John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty. Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles International and San Francisco International are also covered by the notice.
The scheduling season runs from March 28 through October 30, 2027. The FAA uses the submissions to review planned operations and address airport capacity constraints. For JFK and Newark, the notice identifies review hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time.
What travelers should take from it
This deadline belongs to airlines submitting plans to the FAA. It is not a deadline for passengers to buy tickets, nor does submission establish that every proposed flight will operate.
For someone considering a summer trip, the distinction is useful: airport planning happens before a journey, while the relevant passenger information remains the airline’s current published schedule and booking terms. A planning notice cannot guarantee a particular departure time, fare or connection. Travelers comparing options should base decisions on the service actually offered when they book.
