New York has awarded up to $8.3 million to 59 food banks and emergency food providers through NY PLATES, the Times Union reported Monday.

The grants support storage, distribution and facility improvements. The Dormitory Authority administers the program with the state Department of Health. Awards go to providers rather than directly to households.
